Auction Action Gratification
We get tapped all the time to give, give, give to fundraisers and we seldom say “No.” Most of the time however, it doesn’t result in any benefit to the store and this time it did: we met the Baker’s!
I put together an extensive wedding gift basket that included a bridal gown, bridal veil, invitations, a mother’s gown, bridesmaid’s dresses, wedding launching consultation, flowers, photography and the wedding cake. It was a gift for the Fall Festival of my parish, Church of the Nativity in Leawood where we have been members for 25 years. It was the first time I had done one like that. I was crossing my fingers that it would be purchased by a family that would appreciate it.
Never have we had such a win/win, as Katy Baker’s mother, goaded by friends, raised her hand for the closing bid! Let the fun begin. Such a sweet family and so easy to dress because they are so gorgeous.
Katy’s Cristiano Lucci dress was perfectly “her” and we found it on Visit #1! Likewise, the french blue Jim Hjelm gowns for the maids were different and a rich late summer hue.
The ceremony took place at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception downtown, the groom’s home parish. The reception was close by at The Guild. Mrs. Baker just closed her eyes and trusted that the sapphire blue Mikado gown would be perfect….and she had as many compliments as the bride! I love color, color, color on mothers. They should be the second most beautifully dressed woman in the room.
The groom Drew was a GQ cover model and his personal sense of style motivated me to ask who he used for tailoring, which was a great lead for me personally. (BTW: Slabotsky’s downtown.)
They were so appreciative, so gracious, so effusive with their referrals, that it almost makes me want to donate another wedding package for a good cause again!
